Our Sadler family From London, England

My Great Grandfather Robert John William (Pop Sadler) Sadler is the only known member of his family to leave Old England and make his way south to the colonies. Apparently, he worked his passage to New Zealand and although a Tailor by trade, settled in the Port of Lyttelton and worked on the docks for most of his life. He told my Nanna, that when he was just a lad, his parents were killed in a fire, so he and his sisters were raised by his Grandmother for a time, and when it become too much for the grandmother, they were put into the care of Dr Barnadoes. I have yet to verify any of this, I am unsure if Barnadoes pass on any records to family members
