Our Australian Maloney Pioneer Family's
As
far as we can determine, the first Maloney family members to make their way to
Australia were Patrick and Hannah Maloney's daughters Bridget
& Mary, unfortunately we haven't uncovered the shipping records for them as
yet, What we do know is they sponsored their widowed mother - Hannah Maloney
(née Ryan) and her remaining children to Australia. They departed from
Portsmouth on the 'Kate' on 19/8/1855 and arrived in Sydney on 4 Dec 1855, also
on broad the 'Kate' was Hannahs niece 'Bridget Maloney'.click

In
1856 Hannah and niece Bridget made a sponsors deposit for the passage of Hannah's
nephew & Bridget's brother 'Lot Maloney'. Lot arrived in Sydney on the
"Vocalist", having departed Plymouth on 7th May 1857 and arriving on
28 Aug 1857. (This 'Lot' was my GGGGrandfather). Lot married Catherine
O'Sullivan at Kiama in 1860, they moved to the Araluen Gold fields a short while
later. Hannah and family took up farmland near Kiama, where family members still
hold land today, Lots sister Bridget seems to have stayed near Sydney as her
husband was an Orchardist as was Hannah's daughter Bridget's Husband. It seems our
Maloney clan come from the Gortcallyroe, Ballyknavin & Kilroughil districts
near Killaloe in Co.Clare
